Birth Injuries and Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a type of birth injury which is caused by trauma to the brain. It occurs at or close to the time of birth and the severity of the condition is based on the kind of damage to the brain of the newborn. The condition is chronic and will not get better or worse over time. It is important to note that medical errors of various kinds are known causes of cerebral palsy.

Symptoms of cerebral palsy can include loss of movement or other functions related to the nervous system. It affects brain development and can cause abnormal hearing and eyesight as well as cognitive difficulties such as the ability to think and learn. It may also manifest as uncontrolled movement of the limbs, troubles in being able to walk, abnormal posture and trouble with balance and coordination. These warning signs commonly appear by the time the child is 2 years old but may show up earlier.

If your child has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy or you feel he or she may have it, medical malpractice may have led to the condition. Please don't hesitate to contact a California birth injury attorney from our firm if you feel this may be the case.

Medical Treatment for Cerebral Palsy

There is no known cure for cerebral palsy and instead, help is geared towards treatment for the child so that they can be as independent as possible. Medication and medical treatments, speech therapy and physical and occupational therapy are all valid avenues by which to help your child. This can be expensive and this is where we would like to help.

Allowing the baby to remain in the birth canal for too long, denying the newborn sufficient oxygen, can cause cerebral palsy. The incorrect use of forceps or other negligent care can also bring this condition about. Mr. Bostwick and Mr. Peterson are attorneys from our firm who work diligently to find the cause of your baby's condition and who was responsible. As a member of The American Trial Lawyers Association - Top 100 Trial Lawyers and having collected in excess of $500 million on behalf of our clients, we are ready to work on your case when negligence has been the cause of your infant's injury.

Contact a California cerebral palsy lawyer to find out how medical malpractice can cause cerebral palsy and what your legal rights are if this has happened to your child.
