Difficult Deliveries May Lead to Life Long Injuries

Three women are joining together to filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a local doctor. According to the complaint, the doctor made numerous errors during their deliveries, which led to one infant dying, and two others suffering serious birth injuries. Where a doctor, nurse or other medical staff makes an error, and as the result a patient suffers harm, he or she may be found guilty of medical malpractice and liable for damages. In this instance, the women have alleged that the doctor and staff failed to notice "clear signs" that the infants were in distress and allowed the women to continue to push longer than it was safe to do so, rather than perform an emergency Cesarean Section. Failure to perform a C-Section where one is warranted may constitute medical malpractice.

In one instance, the doctors allowed the women to push for over two hours, then attempted vacuum extraction multiple times. The infant did not survive. In the other two instances, the children were born were severe birth injuries.

According to court documents, several errors were made, including the improper administration of Oxytocin to induce labor. The doctor involved in this matter has previously been disciplined by the state medical board, but continues to practice.

Unfortunately, doctors may be disciplined, and even have their privileges revoked at one medical facility or hospital, and still be able to practice at another, potentially opening up other patients to the risk of harm.
