Class-action lawsuit filed based on hazardous chemical exposure

Recently, a class action lawsuit was filed against 3M manufacturing company asserting that chemicals from their plant leeched into the ground soil, leading to an increase in cancer, infertility and babies with low birth weights.

The complaint asserts that the company improperly manufactured and disposed of perflourinated chemicals, putting the community at greater risk for birth injuries, including low birth rates and premature births. When infants are born prematurely, they may be more likely to suffer from complications, including jaundice, cerebral palsy, respiratory distress, and brain injury.

Unfortunately, many people are exposed to hazardous toxins and chemicals on a daily basis. For example, certain high-risk professions are known to expose workers to dangerous chemicals that may lead to birth injuries such as dry cleaners, x-ray technicians and painters. Additionally, many commonly used household products such as disinfectants and certain types of detergents have been linked to birth defects. Recent instances of ground water contamination have also led to questions about corporate responsibility and liability for birth injuries. As more consumers complain about environmental toxins and harm, hopefully these practices will change and unscrupulous corporations will take responsibility for their actions.

For more information or if you believe that your child sustained a birth injury due to exposure to a hazardous chemical, please contact the experienced California birth injury lawyers at Bostwick & Peterson LLP for an immediate consultation.
