The use of hospitalists may decrease the incidence of medical malpractice

Over the last decade, many hospitals have increased the practice of using “hospitalists” – medical staff who remain at the hospital rather than alternate between their offsite clinics and making rounds at a hospital where they have privileges. A recent study has shown that the use of hospitalists, especially in the area of obstetrics, reduces the incidence of medical malpractice. Many times, poor experiences – leading to potential negligence and medical malpractice - occur because of delays in treatment. For example, a nurse may try to reach a doctor in an emergency situation and lose critical time, putting the mother and child in danger. Having a hospitalist available may eliminate these delays and enable medical staff to attend to a mother and child immediately. Reducing delays is critical to helping patients and may prevent devastating birth injuries.

While medical errors continue to occur at an alarming rate, having hospitalists available has been shown to reduce the incidence of malpractice.

For more information or if you or a loved one has been harmed as a result of medical negligence, it is important to speak with an experienced California personal injury lawyer for an immediate consultation.
