Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Filed After Infant's Death

Last week, a medical malpractice lawsuit was filed against a Louisiana hospital after a woman learned that her son’s death had been caused by a fungal outbreak at the facility. According to reports, nearly five years ago a deadly fungal infection caused the death of five pediatric patients at the hospital. However, while an internal investigation was performed at the institution, families of the victims were not informed concerning the true cause of their children's deaths. In this instance, the mother found out through reading the newspaper that the hospital acquired infection that killed her son was the result of contact with a soiled towel.

While the majority of hospital visits go smoothly, more and more reports reveal preventable errors, infections and negligence at hospitals cause significant harm. If you or a loved one has been harmed as the result of medical negligence, it is important to consult with an experienced California medical malpractice attorney immediately. Many times, families may suspect something went wrong while they or a family member received medical treatment. An experienced medical negligence attorney can begin an investigation into what happened and provide you guidance concerning your next steps.

In this instance, the mother of Tyrel Caden Gee, a child who died after coming in contact with the deadly fungus while in the neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital, noted that she always suspected he contracted something in the hospital, but was never informed that the illness was part of the outbreak.

Unfortunately, medical malpractice can take many forms, and families may not be informed immediately of the circumstances that led to harm. In fact thousands of patients are affected by medical errors and some 225,000 people die each year due to medical malpractice. Often the families are left wondering what happened, and never receive the closure they deserve.

If you suspect a loved one may have been injured or harmed as the result of medical malpractice, we urge you to consult with the top California medical malpractice lawyers at Bostwick & Peterson, LLP for an immediate consultation.
