Preventable Medical Errors Cause Thousands Of Deaths Each Year

Recently California Senator Barbara Boxer released a report shedding light on a critical issue that needs to be addressed – the alarming rate of preventable medical errors that occur each year in American hospitals. According to the report, between 210,000 and 480,000 individuals die each year as the result of medical mistakes. The new report addresses some of the common errors and the steps California hospitals have implemented to address these issues.

If you believe that you or a loved one has been harmed as the result of a medical mistake, it is important to act immediately and consult with an experienced California medical malpractice attorney who can begin an investigation into all of the factors that may have been involved in an incident, and help your family recover the compensation they deserve.

Some of the errors highlighted in the report include:

  • Hospital-acquired infections
  • Adverse drug reactions
  • Patient falls
  • Bedsores

Sen. Boxer called on everyone to work together, stating "If we all work together – doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, patients, patient advocates, medical technology pioneers, public health experts and federal officials – we can prevent so much heartbreak for families and stop these tragedies before they occur."

As California medical malpractice attorneys, we have seen far too many instances of families torn apart as the result of preventable medical errors. We support any measures aimed at improving patient safety.
